Think about the book and the movie that we saw. Take a minute and think of one abstract noun that captures the essence of the book and the movie. Make sure you can support the noun with a specific scene to prove your point. Also, be original. Try not to steal what another student wrote.

Brutalness is my abstract noun for war horse because the war generally is presented in the movie as a really brutal scene especially the warfare and the way the horse sees this and the way that it’s described. I can really think of no other other noun for it. The scene I’m focusing on is the scene where the Joey’s friend Topthorn is killed and Joey is running away and thousands of people are being killed at the same time I think it’s just plain brutalness. In this movie it does have a really brutall scene and that it is a great movie because of it( creating suspense)that it is a really good noun to discribe this movie.
My abstract known is hope. Albert hopes to get to Joey. Joey hopes the same. Each side hopes the war is over soon, each soldier hopes to see his family and vice versa. Emily hopes to live, Grandpa-pa is hoping that the war will not affect him, and Topthorn hopes joey is ok. Not only do each and every character have hopes, but a general hope that every other person is ok. Also, I noticed that hopes increase in intensity as the war starts. Also, Alberts mom hopes Albert understands about his dad and Albert hopes his dad stops drinking and alberts father hopes he can keep paying off the rent because if he loses his farm, he loses everything.
I think a good abstract noun would be love. Albert loves Joey so much. He loved Joey so much he was willing to go to war just to hope to find Joey. He loves his horse so much that he is willing to risk his life just for a horse. Also Emily loves Joey so much too. So I guess Joey has something about that makes people like him. Also I think top thorn and Joey also had a special connection to. They would always watch out for each other. Captain Nicholas had lots of love for joey he said he would protect him with his life witch he did.
A good abstract noun for War Horse would be persistence. This is because when Joey left his mom, he did not just say “Oh, my life is over because my mom is gone.” He was persistent to live on and find a new life. Also when Joey was sold by Albert’s dad, Albert was persistent to go to war like Joey that he waited until he was old enough and then went to war. When Joey charged in to war against the Germans, even when Captain Nickels was shot off from Joey’s back, Joey still kept on running because if he stopped, he might be shot too. In the movie where Joey had to pull the big tank up the hill, he was persistent not to give up and kept on going. I can see sweat forming on his neck. When Top Thorn died, in the movie, Joey wasn’t like “I’m going to die with you!” but was ,again, persistent to live on. Also the girl Emily, she was persistent to live on too even she got sick and her body was frail. When Joey left, I guess she didn’t want to live anymore so she died. So here is a big difference between persistence and no persistence. The Germans, British, French….any country that was in the war was persistent to win the battle and not lose to their opponent. This is, I guess, what makes war so long.
I think a good abstract noun would be sadness, because Joey had to go to war and Albert was going to miss him very much. I would be sad too if that happened to me. Imagine if he died! Albert even wanted to go to war to find Joey and make sure that he is okay. I think that it would be dangerous going there because you could get killed! Another reason why I think this book and movie represents sadness is because his other owner Emily had to be separated from Joey because the soldiers needed him for the war. Plus, Emily died when she was 15 because of pnemonia. Imagine if you have to be separated from someone you really love.
The abstract noun that would represent the book and the movie would probably be intense. I choose this word because when all the fighting happened horses and people were killed. Even though there was no blood it still was intense. Also in one scene when the British took Joey and Topthorn the white horse and other horses were pulling the big bomb. So when the white horse became weak it fell down on its knees and one of the British soldiers took out his gun and shot the horse. Another intense scene was when the same British soldier was about to kill Joey, but then Albert came and told the British that Joey was his horse. The British did not believe him until he explained what he looked like even though he was temporarily blind. Albert explained that he was a red horse, he had four even white socks and a diamond shape between his eyes. When the soldiers cleaned Joey of they found out he was Albert’s horse. I think my word represents the movie and the book best.
The abstract is that Albert works hard on Joey. This because Albert trained Joey. Also because Albert gave the red peace of fabric to Joey before Joey went to war. Also if you noticed in the movie Albert said to Joey I will find you Joey. Joey was also trying to find Albert because he was running away from both the British and the Germans. Albert was trying to describe at the end what Joey looks like even though he is blind. He still did not give up after they said no there is no white socks. He then he said no it is dark because of the mud. So then they cleaned Joey with water and then from there he knew it was Joey. Albert left his mother and father just to find Joey that is how much Albert loves and works hard to find Joey. Joey loves him so much that he was trying to find Albert and Albert love Joey so much that he left his family and went to war to find Joey. This is how Albert works hard and loves Joey.
I think of a good abstract noun is brave. I think Joey is very strong. He grew up with his mom then got taken away from his mom. then got sold to Alberts family. Became best freinds with albert then got sent to war and was with captin nick and then Emily. that is a lot to deal with. It didnt hold Joey back he did what everyone told him to do. During the war he got beat up. He had scratches and bruises and cuts everywhere. He wanted the war to be over. He wanted to get home to Albert. When Joey was stuck in the wires Joey was struggling but wasnt going to give up.
The abstract noun that I think captures the book and the movie is determined. I picked determined because once Albert lost Joey, he never gave up trying to find him, even when everyone including his friend doubted him. Albert left his family and everyone to be in the war just so he could find this one horse that he connected to. In the scene where Albert was cleaning off a horse, (Joey), he began to describe what Joey looked like. He said he had 4 white socks and a white diamond on top of his head. As Joey’s friend started cleaning him off, he realized that this horse was Joey. Overall, all his determination to find Joey paid off because he found him in the end.
I think that an abstract noun that would describe War Horse would be promise. This is because Albert promised to Joey that he would find him again when Joey was getting sold at the war horse collection place in town, and he did not break his promise. Also, many men promised their families that they would come back from war and most of them ended up breaking their promises because either they died or were alive but unable to arrive back home. Another example of promise is when the boy solider promised his mother that he would keep his under-aged brother safe in war. They both ended up dying in the older brother’s plan to save them. One more example of promise was when Emily said to her grandfather that she would be careful while riding Joey. She broke that promise because she rode right into a war field with Joey. That is why I thought that this movie/book was based around promise.
An abstract noun that I think describes war horse would be Hope because that is why Albert let Joey go because he had hope that he would find Joey. Also I think that Albert’s dad and Albert both had hope that they could get Joey to plow. They also had hope that they could harvest a crop to pay off their debt. The British and the German soldiers had hope they would win the war. Albert went into the war with hope to find Joey and that he would bring him home. Emily had hope that she would ride and her grandfather had hope that she would live on forever in peoples hearts. Hope kept all the charecters together and strong through the entire story. None of them ever gave up hope.
One abstract noun to describe both the book and the movie is hope because Albert and Joey both stuck with the hope that they would find each ther again and they did hope saw through that they could be together again. Albert joined the army with the slim chance that he would find joey even though he risked death and injury. In the book he joined the vet corps in thehope that one horse that came in would be joey.
My abstract noun would be aggression because war is not friendly nor peaceful or com. The hole movie I think the theme was aggression between Albert losing Joey to the army and the war. The way I could tell was because Steven Speilburg really used his lines in the movie to show that they were frustrated or angry. Also there was a lot more death scenes then I thought there would be, although they dint particularly show the killing you could tell there was a lot of hostility. I know I keep going back to things but their were so many part within part that show aggression. I also have another word which is, touching, at the end it was a part that every body sank into there seat and wanted to shout out (NOOO! don’t go to the old man.) Another touching part was when is the beginning when Albert formed that special bond with Joey. How powerful movies can be to people amazes me.

A good abstract noun for War Horse is, motivated because throughout the story Albert is motivated many times because of Joey. For an example Albert is motivated to keep Joey and the farm and works very hard with Joey to help keep both Joey and their farm. Another example is when Albert is motivated to find Joey and goes to war to find him. That is why I think motivated is a good abstract noun for War Horse.
(This is the correct one, the first one is not the one the correct one)

A good abstract noun for War Horse is, motivated because throughout the story Albert is motivated many times because of Joey. For an example Albert is motivated to keep Joey and the farm and works very hard with Joey to help keep both Joey and their farm. Also I think that the love between Joey and Albert is very strong and Albert is motivated to find Joey. That is why I think motivated is a good abstract noun for War Horse.
An abstract noun for the book and movie, would be Bravery. Joey and Albert both were very brave for letting one another go, know that it was the right thing. Joey had alot of bravery for going to war! In the movie Albert said that Joey wouldn’t be brave enough to go to war, because he was scared of loud noises, so Joey was very brave for going to war and having to face his fear of loud noises. Albert had bravery in him, because he let Joey go alone to the army without him which was very brave, because Albert loved Joey so much! Bravery defenitly symbolisies the book alot! I think it was because it was the way the acted, in the book and the movie!

is what I meant to wrie!
One abstract word would be hope. Hope is the best word because joey and albert both knew that they could once again meet. When Joey got trapped in the wire, he knew that is he just tried to stay up and not die they could both meet again! Also this was similiar to albert too. He joined the army hopping he would find joey but after losing his sight for a few days he finally finds joey. All though in the end of the book he finds joey when they are at the vet but in the movie Albert uses his love for Joey and knows that joey is right there next to him while everyone is cleaning him off. Hope is the best word to use for Joey and Albert!
The abstract noun I think fits War Horse is believe. Obviously, belief is expressed when Joey and Albert are torn apart by war, and they both believe they will meet again someday. I also think believe is expressed when nobody thought Joey could pull the plow through the field, but Albert stuck by and believed Joey could do it, and he encouraged Joey all the way. One more way believe was expressed was the fact that the British were sick of gun fire and war and believed that things would be over quickly. Believe is certainly an important aspect of the story.
Katie martin p.4
A word that describes this movie is determined. I think this because from the moment Albert lost Joey he was determined to find him again. Albert was determined to join the army to be reunited with Joey. Not to mention when Albert was talking about Joey and what he looked like. He said how he had four white socks in his ankles and a white diamond on his forehead. Everyone slowly looked as Joey has mud cleaned off of him on his four ankles to reveal four white sock, and how when the rubbed off the mud on his forehead it revealed a white diamond. His determination got him far.
One abstract noun that I would describe the movie and the book would be optimism. When Joey was first born, Albert immediately fell in love with him. They had a strong connection at first sight. It was like a very strong line that couldn’t be broken. The scene that focuses mainly on optimism was when Captain Nichols was shot. Captain Nichols is the person who bought Joey from Albert’s father. Captain Nichols promised Albert that he’ll return Joey to Albert. Both Joey and Albert were extremely optimistic that they would be reunited with each other throughout the movie and the book. Joey goes through very difficult times, but manages to fight back. For example, Joey could have gotten killed in the first battle when the British snuck up on the Germans. In addition, Joey’s close friend in war, Topthorn died, leaving Joey all alone. Even though Joey lost most of his friends, he didn’t loose Albert. Plus, Albert hopes to see Joey again according to Captain Nichols and their agreement. That was one of the reasons Albert volunteered to fight. They were hoping to see each other after World War I ended.
I think a good abstract noun would be passionate. I think that because Albert was passionate about training him to plow and they showed that they were close. When Joey went to war he still had a big chunk of Albert with him and same with Albert. When they get to the end of the book where Albert is working for the hospital in the war. They still had that chunk of passion for each other. Also when Joey was nudging Albert to recognize him it seemed that Albert had lost some of his passion but not all of it because when they were washing Joey off they found that even blind Albert knows his horse by heart. At the end of the movie when they reunite in the sunset the passion sort of boosts up to 100%
I think that one abstract noun that could describe the movie really well is love. Albert loves Joey very much. He went into war just so that he could have a chance of finding him. He also was almost crying when his dad was about to sell him off to the Army. He tried to convince the Army officer that the horse was in bad condition and lied to him that his leg was damaged. He also told his dad that the horse had to be treated nicely. He even stood in front of his dad when he had the rifle and was just about to shoot the horse. So, it is now very clear that Joey loves his horse very much. We also know that Joey loves Albert, too. Joey was screaming and rearing up when he was taken away from Albert. Joey was also very obedient to Albert, because he would respond to the whistle when Albert made it. In the book, Joey was also rearing up and shaking his head, shaking it around and trying to have Albert look at his eyes. So, these reasons are why I think that Love is the best word to describe the movie and the horse.
I think one abstract noun is love. I think this because Albert loved Joey very much because he join the army so he could maybe find Joey even though he thought Joey died. When they brought Joey back to the trench Albert thought it would be Joey. Right when they where about to shoot Joey Albertb did his owl call and Joey looked up. Then the same thing happend again ,but verybody made a path for Albert and help him move along. When he called again Joey ran over to him and Albert told them it was his horse and to prove to he said the horse had four white socks and a white diamond on his head like so /\.

i think the best word that discribes is inspriing to everone that say dont give up and albert never gave up hope to find joey and how albert knew it was joey and when they cleared the mud was insrping
Hayley Dineen p.6.
An abstract noun that would describe the book and the movie would be courage. Courage would describe both because in the book and movie Joey had the most courage. Albert also had courage, but he had more courage in the movie. Courage represents many things in the movie and the book. It represents a lot of things because all the people who sacrificed their lives to go to war, but many of them died. A scene in the movie that represents courage would be when Joey was all covered in wires. That scene has a lot of courage in it because Joey could of died but he didn’t because he was brave, and had lots of faith and courage in him. This is why I think courage would represent the movie and book.
I chose bravery because the leader person said “be brave” and Joey also was brave fighting in the war and running into the barbed wire. Albert was also brave because he joined the war to find the horse he trained and his friend Andrew was brave because at first he was super scared and then he ran out and started fighting so there was a lot of bravery in this movie. Most of the people in this movie were brave like the little girl Emily she rode Joey and had no experience with horses and the Germans were just looking for horses and the grandpa knew that they would take the horse but he still let her ride it.
Dgoll
I think a wonderful abstract noun for War Horse would be friendship. The reason why i think friendship would be a great abstract noun for the book and movie is because it explains Joey, and Austin and how they both had a really close connection to each other. They also loved each other very deeply. I also think that since Austin thought Joey all the things he is known for, that shows that they have a close connection and that Austin is problemly the only one who can teach Joey those amazing things. Sorda like the call Austin sent out to joey (the owl hollar). At the very end of both movie, and book you can definatly tell that Joey, and Austin have a very close friendship by the way the Joey could know he was coming just by the owl hollar. This is why i think friendship is noticable in both movie, and book!!!
An abstract noun that I would use to describe War Horse would be loyalty. I think this because Albert and Joey were so loyal to each other and it shows for Joey in the scene when Albert’s father sells Joey to the army and Albert is trying to get him back. In the book the author says how Joey was feeling through his thoughts, but in the movie, even without the thoughts, you can tell that Joey is trying to break free of the soldier’s grip and run to Albert. One scene in the movie that shows loyalty for Albert was near the end when the British won the coin toss and Joey was back with the British, how Albert knew it was his horse and started to whistle for him and even when he was blind he knew exactly what Joey looked like and told them it with full detail. That scene replaced the scene in the book that also showed loyalty when Albert and his friend were cleaning off Joey and Albert was talking great things on how he was going to find Joey and how great Joey was not knowing that Joey was right next to him. That shows how Joey was the whole reason why Albert joined the army and how he was just non stop talking about him.
That is why I think that loyalty would be a good abstract noun to represent this book.
A abstract noun to describe War Horse is determination. Albert was determined that he would find Joey in book and the movie. Even though Joey couldn’t say so in the movie since horses can’t talk, you could tell that he was determined to get back to Albert. In the book Albert had a friend in the horse stables who believed that Albert would never find Joey again and he was determined to convince Albert that he would never find Joey. In the movie and the book the British and German soldiers were determined to win Joey. In the book when Albert and his friend are cleaning off a horse who turned out to be Joey, Joey was determined to make Albert and his friend to figure out that he was Joey. And they did. That is why determination is a good abstract noun to describe War Horse.5
I think the best abstract noun to describe War Horse would be loyalty. This is because in the movie and book Joey and Albert are very trusting of each other and loyal to their causes. They both believe in each other best friends and always believe that they will find each other again. For example, in the movie and book, Albert once he is old enough, joins the war in hope that somehow Joey will find him or he will find Joey and they do find each other. They both were loyal companions and never gave up. Another example would when Emily is taking care of the horses and was very loyal to them. Just the same with Topthorn and Joey because they both prayed that Emily would be alright when she was sick. And she was. Until they were forced to leave by the Germans. All of these were examples of loyalty throughout the movie and the book.
A good abstract noun to describe this movie would be determination. People were all determined to do different. Albert was determined to get Joey back, the soldiers were determined to fight for their nation and to stay alive, and the horses were determined to listen and earn the respect of their riders. Tough, they all were determined to finish what they came for, not everyone fulfilled their goals. People and animals risked their lives, which shows just how determined they were. I thought that was really touching, and it made me cry. This word really captures what this movie was all about. It made me have many mixed emotions throughout the entire movie. It was a really emotional movie.
I think an abstract noun that would best describe War Horse is luck. Joey was very lucky to have someone as loving and kind as Albert own him. He was lucky that he survived the first battle even though Captin Nichols died. He was lucky to have Topthorn as a friend and have him for almost evrything he did. When he met Emily she cared as much for him as Albert. Well, almost. Albert had been lucky to survive all the battles and survive the gas which his friend, Andrew, did not. When he and Joey met again at the end and he knew it was Joey, four white socks, red all over, and a cross on his forehead that was more like a miracle then luck. Albert never stopped beiliving that one day he would find Joey and with such luck he did. It was really amazing. I know that there’s a saying “If you love something, set it free” but sometimes when you care SO much about them its too hard to say good bye. Albert had such confidence that someday he and Joey would be together again and thats exactly what happened. I think the piont of the movie was that you should never give up on your dreams, no matter how impossible they may seem.
I think a good word to describe the movie is determination. I think an example of that is how determined Albert was to someday find Joey even if it meant risking his own life. I also think that all of the soldiers and people fighting in the war were determined to get through the hard times and fight for the people they loved and for their country. I also think that Emily’s grandfather was very determined to buy Joey because that is probably what she would have wanted him to do. Many people risked their lives because they were determined to reach their goal of winning the war. I also think there was a lot of determination shown in the book especially when Albert and the other soldier were cleaning off the horse (that was Joey) and Albert was talking about how he and Joey would find each other again one day somehow. I think that this word really captures the essence of the movie and the book.
The word that I think best describes the movie and the book is love. Love describes this book really well. In the book and movie, we can see that Albert loves the horse Joey. Albert goes into war all because he has the hope of finding Joey. He was also really torn when his horse got sold by his father. He was crying and made an officer to promise to him that his horse would be okay and return to him. We also see love when Joey is found by Emily, the little girl who found them. Emily wanted the horse to stay with her forever, and she even lost the will to live in the book when the horses were taken from her. Also, while she was sick in the book, she didn’t hesitate to stop feeding Joey. In the book, another example of love that we find is when the German soldier finds Joey and takes care of him. He gives them very good care, and makes sure that he is always in top shape. We also see that the horse loves Albert very much, too. Joey was reeling on his legs when he go taken from Joey. He didn’t want to leave him, because Joey had cared a lot about him. These are the reasons why I think that love best describes the story and the movie.
A good abstract noun for War Horse would be perseverance. I would choose this because Albert never gave up trying to find Joey, and Joey also never gave up. In the war, Joey worked so hard, he kept trying. Even when Joey was injured, he still worked hard. Albert also never gave up on training Joey. He kept trying the whole day. He also never gave up when he was plowing the field. He told himself that he was going to plow that whole field, and he did. The parents also would not give up the farm. They were doing all they can to make it so the land lord wouldn’t take it. Also Emily’s grandfather persevered. He said he lost everything in the war, and he doesn’t want to loose the horse. He never gave up trying to get Joey or Top Thorn back. At the auction, he never gave up, and would bet all his money to get that horse back, because it was all he had left of Emily. Without these characters perseverance, I don’t think this story would have been nearly as interesting.
I think bravery is a very good word that describes this book . A scene that describes this word is when Joey is stuck in the wire in the middle of dead mans land. The tank was coming near him and he had to jump over it to get away. Joey had to face his fears or he would be run over. He had to jump over the tank because all around him there was barbed wire. He faced his fears when he was stuck in no mans land. He was brave because he could have been shot. Another time Joey was brave is when he first charged the Germans. He was brave because there were lots of machine gun bullets flying by his head. This is very brave of him because he could have been shot.
A good abstract noun that represented war horse would be either love or determination because Albert had so much determination he joined the war just to find Joey, he also had hope that he would find joey. So with those two things he never gave up. A scene that backs up what I just wrote would be in the movie when he whistled right before Joey was about to get shot, he looked up so he would not get shot and Albert came even though he could not see from the gas. They knew it was his horse because he described how Joey had four white socks and a diamond down his forehead they wiped away the mud and sure enough he was right. And in the book when Albert was talking about Joey while cleaning him off not knowing that it actually was Joey, when he washed off his socks he thought it was just a coincidence that they were all white, but when he washed of his forehead he knew it was Joey. The main abstract noun that would sum it all up would be determination.
I chose the seen where Albert’s friend was describing Joey to Albert. My abstract noun is hope because I knew Albert would recognize Joey, Joey knew he would. Both Joey and I were just waiting until Albert saw the four socks around his ankles, and the diamond on Joey’s nose. The reason Albert went into the war was to reunite with Joey. He was hoping to find him alive, and healthy. Also because the soldiers were risking their life to protect the horses, the horses were hoping the soldiers were keeping their promise. I also chose hope because Joey was hoping the Albert would come and save him when he was about to get shot. Also because Joey was hoping that Albert would teach him how to plow so he wouldn’t have to go to the other person. That is why I chose hope to be the abstract noun for War Horse.
I think that the best abstract noun that describes War Horse would be motivation. I think this because Joey was motivated to fight through the whole war especially in the beginning when Albert was saying goodbye to Joey. Also, I think Albert was motivated to become a soldier when Joey left not only to have the chance of seeing Joey, but to also be as brave as Joey. Like when Joey had to plow the field, Albert helped just as much because they were motivated to stay together because Albert’s father would pull them apart if they didn’t plow the whole field. Also, motivation showed when the older of the two brothers were motivated to stay alive with his brother when he promised his parents to protect his younger brother.
If I had to pick one abstract noun to describe warhorse movie and book I would probably choose faith. The reason I would choose faith is because if it wasn’t for faith Joey and Albert would have never seen each other again and if Albert had no faith he would have thought Joey was dead given the letter he received. If there was no faith Albert would not have taken the job to keep horses safe, fed, and clean which at the time was a bad job in the war. If Albert had no faith there would have been no chance Albert would see Joey again and that’s why I think faith would be a good abstract noun for this movie/book.
I think the abstract noun that describes War Horse the best would be hesitation because Albert, in the book and the movie did not hesitate to get Joey back/ see him again. He joined the army about 4 years later just to see if he could defy the odds that were 1 in about 15 million and get back his Joey. Even when he was blind he and Joey had a connection. He also did not hesitate to show the town that a horse like Joey could plow what seemed like an impossible field to even grow vegetable on. But Joey and Albert did it. They defied the odds again. And everyone knew that Joey was one special horse.
I think an abstract noun that fits in the movie would be heart. This is because Joey wanted so much to please the person caring for him and gave so much effort into what he did. I think that the book really captured the feeling of what a wonderful horse he was. Heart also means the relationships Joey had with all the different characters. Every time he made a connection to a person or horse, a special bond would form. For example, Joey and Top Thorn connected the first time they saw each other. they would protect each other and love one another. They would be at each others side as long as they could.
i think one abstract noun that discribed the movie is excitment because there was a war going on and war is exciting. i thought it was a good movie
The abstract noun I chose was determination. I chose this word because the scene when Albert was scrubbing Joey down and did not even notice him. Then his friend David showed him the four white socks on his legs and the white cross on his forehead. Albert was very happy when he found Joey. Though Albert was determined to find him, he was so determined that he joined the army where he easily could have been killed. He knew what could have happened though he took the risk because he loved Joey more than anyone else, and he kept believing that his horse was still out there. That is why I chose the word determination.
The concrete noun i chose was bravery. Joey was esspically brave when captin nickols fell off joey and joey just kept running not knowing what would happen to him. Joey was also brave when he kept running though the barbed wire and didn’t stop until he did not he didn’t her the the tanks anymore. another one was when he hade to pull the tank even though he was hurt. Albert was super brave because he went into was to see if he could find Joey (he did). Albert did fight in the war and survied but when they got to the safe zone they were gased and and Albert was temporarly blinded.that is why i chose bravery.
If I were to pick an abstract noun it would be determination. Albert was determined to teach Joey how to plow. Also, Joey was determined throughout the whole book/movie. Joey wanted to save top thorn and he had so much strength when he tried and tried to get out of the wire. Albert was determined to find Joey, which was one of the reasons he entered the war. Albert was determined that at the end of the movie, when he was blind, to find Joey, he was determined that it was Joey. When it was, his determination paid off. At the end, when Joey was sold, Albert was so determined that his whole army helped him try to buy back Joey. That is why I choose the abstractnoun, determination to describe the book.
Sorry I am actually period 4!
One abstract noun that represents the book is LOYALTY. I picked this noun because many times in the book Joey showed loyalty to Albert and the owners he had along the way. One scene where he showed to be loyal was the scene in the movie when Albert was blindfolded and whistled for Joey and Joey came. When a horse responds to a human owner that hasn’t seen each other in more than 5 years, (a difficult 5 years, too) the horse must be VERY intelligant and loyal. Another scene was when the old French guy bought Joey from the market and as the old man was leading him away, Joey came loose and raced back to Albert. True friends always come back after you’ve set them free.
I think that the best abstract noun to describe WAR HORSE is love. This noun fits because to me the movie is all about the connection Joe makes with all the different people. the connection also known as love. In the beginning, you can see strait away that Albert really cares for Joe , and thinks Joe can understand him.then, Later on in the book, Emily feels a connection to Joe and Top Thorn. She talks to them to, and then, the German general sees what beauties the two horses are, and tries to protect them, and Lastly, at the end of the book, Joe knows Albert is taking care of him, because he loves Albert.
I think a good abstract noun is confidence. I think that because, Albert, never gave up trying to keep Joey. No matter how hard things got, Albert kept on trying. For example, when everyone including, Mr. Lyons, was watching Albert trying to get Joey to push the plow. Joey wouldn’t do it, but Albert didn’t give up. Also, when Albert’s dad was going to shoot, Joey, Albert risked his life for Joey by standing in front of the gun so it would shoot him instead. Because of what Albert did,Joey survived. Lastly, Albert went to war, just to make sure Joey was ok. That’s why I think a good abstract noun is confidence.
The abstract noun I chose was sacrifice. I chose sacrifice because of the various sacrifices throughout the movie. One of the most obvious and important sacrifices was Alberts dad giving Joey to the cavalry. That was an important sacrifice because it sparked the plot and storyline of the movie. Another sacrifice was the Narricott’s money to buy Joey. That was the most important event/ sacrifice by far. This represented sacrifice because the Narricotts gave up almost all of their money, almost giving up their farm, that their renting from a land lord, therefore giving up their lives. Those are the important sacrifices in the movie, I feel.
The word I would use to describe War Horse would be suspense. I chose this word because you never know what’s coming up next. It’s not a movie/book where you know something is going to happen. At first, you don’t know Joey started off being a farm horse, and at the end you didn’t know that he and Albert would reunite. This book/movie could never be predicted (which made it such a great movie my mom and I are seeing it again)! Also I didn’t see Joey almost getting shot, or in the book when Albert doesn’t even notice he taking care of a dirty horse whose actually his. So, this movie/book was FULL of suspense and times when I sit at the edge of my seat!!
One abstract noun that captures the essence of War Horse I think would be determination. This is an appropriate word for both the book and the movie because when Albert’s father sold the horse to a british soldier, Captain Nichols, Albert was very upset, but was very determined to go to war, so that he could find and bring home his beloved Joey, him and the horse in one piece. It is also a good word to describe the war aspect of the movie, because each side was determined to make their country proud and win the war. Another reason the word determination is a good word to describe War Horse is because the French girl, Emily, was determined to teach the horses how to jump, and she was determined to keep them hidden from the German soldiers who came to her house and took almost everything, with a little help from her grandfather, who lied about not having any livestock on their farm.
An abstract noun that i would choose is bravery because in the movie joey never gave up and was always trying. He was so brave through out the whole movie. It made me slide off my chair because he was so brave and took risks in the war. I never thought he was going to live because the war was so intense and dangerous and he faught and never gave up. Through out the whole movie he never gave up and kept trying. With Joey in the movie it made it alot better and suspensful. Joey was the breavest horse out of all and knew what to do. Without Joey there would be no suprise ending
My abstract noun is friendship. I think this is a good abstract noun to describe it because in the movie and in the book it really showed the relationship between Joey and Albert. It showed this in the scene when Albert just heard marvelous horse and knew in his heart it was Joey. This scene sowed it because it showed the bond between the two. Also at the part when Joey and Albert were determined to plow the field because if not they would not be able to be together. They were very loyal to each other and in the end when they met up again I think it moved everyone. This movie was a great one and I loved to see how the movie turned out after we read the book.
A perfect abstract noun that represents War Horse is loss. This is the perfect because there were so many losses in the movie War Horse. First Joey’s mother lost Joey. Then Albert almost completely lost Joey. Then after that Emily and the two brothers lost Top Thorn and Joey. After that Joey lost Top Thorn, Albert lost his best friend too. All of these examples are just some of the losses in this story. The first thing that comes to mind when I hear the word loss in the same sentence as War Horse is the scene in the movie when Albert is forced to say goodbye to joey and you can see in Albert’s eyes that he could not take this loss.
I think an abstract noun I would choose would be care, because of how much Albert cared for Joey. He trained him in to a really strong and trained him enough that he even impressed military officers. It also showed that he cared because when his dad sold him to the military he was very upset he even volunteered to join the army just to be with him but unfortunately he was to young to enlist. But Albert didn’t quit there, as soon as he was old enough he enlisted to the army to be a guy who helped with the horses for the chance just to maybe find Joey and luckily he found Joey( it only took him 15 minutes to recognize him)
Good word
My word for the book and movie is epic and heart touching because when Joey got caught in the wires and was stuck it was sad to see that and very sad the epic part was when he jumped over the tank it was epic and cool because he could not jump before.I also liked when every one that was nice to Joey got the ribbon and gave him a home.It was a good movie and I rate it 5 ***** stars and i rate the book 10 ********** stars i rate the play 4 **** stars because i have not seen it yet but it must be good.
My abstract noun is love, I chose this because almost every body in the movie loves someone or something that was often stolen from them. Emily and her grand father is a good example, this is because the first time they had their food taken what they cooked the food in and other resources that they needed. the second time the horses were stolen way after they started to love them. And the worst of all emily’s life was stolen from a sickness.
This also happened with Albert, he had spent days training Joey he spent the night teaching how to plow while it was poring rain. one day when he woke up Joey was gone and soled to the army.
This even happened to Joey, first of all going back to Albert because Joey was the one who was soled and he also had to leave, but also he had lost not only his partner but what turned out to be his best friend when topthorn had been sick and just couldn’t go on.
I think a good abstract noun for War Horse is hope. Albert is very attached to this horse, Joey, and trough out the story he holds on to hope that they will be together. Early in the story Albert hopes that Joey will plow so his dad doesn’t have to sell him. When Joey goes to war, Albert joins the army in hope to reunite with Joey. After the war Emily’s grandfather buys the horse at the market for 100 pounds and he gives the horse to Albert after realizing it belonged to Albert. Emily’s grandfather hopes that Albert will take very good care of Joey. This is why hope is a good word to describe War Horse.
I thought that the word bravery would best fit the movie and book because the horse, Joey, was very brave and wasn’t scared of the humans fighting . my favorite sad part would be when Top Thorn died but Joey could still keep going showing he is a strong horse.
I think the main abstract noun in War Horse would be hope. This relies mostly on Joey. Everywhere Joey went, it gave hope for the owners. Emily and Albert, would be two meaningful examples. Joey gave Emily hope to stay alive when she got sick. The example with Albert is that he went into the war, with hope to find Joey. People did amazing things, just for the hope of one very special horse. And all those people who died, the ones which Joey called the REAL heroes, died with hope that Joey would live on and find a new owner.
I think one abstract noun that describes War Horse is Hope. I chose the word hope because when Alberts father sold Joey the only thing Albert could rely on is hope. When Captain Nichols was reported dead Albert thought that Joey was dead but he had hope and had faith that Joey was alive. Also Joey had hoped to find Albert witch is why I think he did not stop when he ran into the first wire. Joey and Albert were both had determination to find each other and re-unite they would even kill to just to see each other one more time. At the end I think they were both happy that they never gave up and always had hope.
A good abstract noun for war horse would be love because Albert and Joey had a great bond so strong nothing can break it . Also love is a good abstract noun for Top Thorn and Joey because they were with each other side by side all the way through. Another reason why is because Emily she was the french girl she trained him, LOVED him, and believed in him. They were together for a really long time and they showed a love for each other. I think that love is all around this book\ movie because eIther is different stories that have a love for Joey or Top Thorn.
i think a good abstract noun would be sadness because joey was taken away from albert to go to war and albert was to young to go with him to battle then joey was getting comfturbul with his new owner then in battle he got shot and killed then after that he was being taken care of by that little girl when the germans and took them from her witch was really sad so basically this hoarse has no good luck what so ever but at the end when joey was reunited with albert was nice but then more bad luck albert cant have him joey has to go to auction then the girls grand pa bought him witch really sucks for albert we learn that the girl died witch is sad but then a sminch of good luck comes in and the grandpa gives albert joey witch was finally something good tat happened.
I think a good abstract noun to describe War Horse would be bravery,or courage. It took a lot of bravery for Joey to go into the war, even though he didn’t want to. He saw a lot of tradgedy, and lived to see many loved ones die or be captured. It took just as much courage for Albert to willingly go into war, knowing what was ahead but pushing on. Albert went into war purely to find his horse, in the hopes that when the fighting was over, he and Joey would go home together once again. Both of these characters strongly represented these abstract nouns, courage and bravery, in the book and the movie.
The abstract noun I would use to describe “War Horse” is perseverance. I chose it because when Joey, Albert’s horse, had to go to war, Albert never stopped looking for him. He even joined the army when he was old enough! In the movie, Albert kept searching and fighting until he got wounded. Joey, like Albert, also got wounded. They finally found each other, after four long years of heartbreaking war. Albert had a lot of perseverance, and that really paid off. This movie is about how Albert went through so much, and how much he persevered just to get his horse back.
The section of the movie I chose was the ending. I prefer the movie’s ending to the book’s. It is more dramatic and adds more feeling and emotion to the story. I thought it was really suspenseful, and the moment when one of the soldiers was going to shoot Joey added a lot of tension. The most heart-racking scene was when Albert whistled and saved Joey, just as Joey was about to be shot. My favorite place was when Albert started describing Joey while he had a blindfold on. It was satisfying to see the shocked faces of all who were around when they realized how much of the description fit Joey. That was the best part of the movie.
I think an abstract noun for war horse would be unforgetable. I think this because it was so touching to see that Albert went into the war just to see Joey and it showed me how important Joey was to him. I also think this because i will never forget the scene where Joey is blinde and he describes what Joey looks like( 4 white socks and a cross at the top,) because it really showed me about their connection.I love how at the end they showed Albert and Joey walking together from the war after 4 years, it was unforgetable!! To see how much joey and Albert cared for each other made me realize that when you grow up with someone you will never forget them! thats why i chose this abstract noun
The abstract noun loyalty describes the movie and the abstract noun bravery describes the book. In the movie, they were focusing more on how Albert really loved Joey and how Joey loved Albert so much. The main point was how if you are loyal, you will find a way to end up reuniting. In the book, more of the main point was of how much bravery Joey showed fighting in the war, even though he was did not want to. He went through so much during the war and they focused more on that more than Albert wanted to get Joey back.
My abstract noun is courage. I chose courage because Joey had the courage to keep running away from the tank and leave topthorn. Joey also had the courage to help topthorn get used to the plow. I once heard in a movie, “You only need 20 seconds and insane courage and I promise something great will come of it.
My abstract noun is bravery. I chose this word because Albert joined the army and went after to get Joey. Also the soldier that was riding Joey in the beginning had to be brave because he was in the front of the line but he still went. The Germans had machine guns though so not many people mad it out including him. Also Albert’s friend was full of bravery too, because he was really frightened by the war and he charged a lot later than anyone else. He finally brought up the courage to get out and charge. I thought the movie was great because it really shows how hard and emotional the war was.
My abstract noun is misery. I picked this abstract noun because it was the theme for the parts of the book/movie where Joey wasn’t with Albert or Emily. If I could describe Joey in one word the word would be misery. Almost every character was in misery in at least one point of the book/movie. Also when Albert and Emily lost Joey they were in misery too. For example when Emily got Joey and Top-Thorne stolen from her she was crying. In addition Joey didn’t want to want to leave Emily. When they pulled him away he was probably in misery. Joey and Top-Thorne were the only thing that Emily had and they were gone.
Period 4 actually
My abstract noun is misery. I picked this abstract noun because it was the theme for the parts of the book/movie where Joey wasn’t with Albert or Emily. I would choose the abstract noun fearless because even when he was young, he was very persistent with everything he did. While he was in the war, he went through a lot and was treated horribly. I think that there was a reason why he was treated the way he was when he was with the Germans, it was because they were terrified by war and did some things out of fear and not thought. But that just goes to show that Joey was even braver than he was expected to be. I also think Top thorn was a major support to Joey because when he was taken away from his mother in the movie, there was no Zoe and since he was so young, when he went to war I think he relied on top thorn. You need to be truly fearless to do what Joey did.
My abstract would be hope. Maybe determination would be number 2 on my list. I picked this because when he was out in the war zones he never gave up and when he got separated from Topthorn, he just kept on running until he couldn’t run any more. Also, when Albert made that promise to Joey that he would find him, I think that Joey really took that seriously, as well as Albert, and he did find him. And when Emily was sick, both the horses and the grandfather were hoping she would be okay. one of the interesting things about the book was that Joey didn’t really think about who’s side he was on. But in the movie you could tell the British were better to him. I think one of the main factors that Joey was so hopeful about everything was that Topthorn was always there. But when Topthorn wasn’t there he kind of went crazy. Maybe he was losing hope.
The abstract noun I would pick would be courage because Joey was out in no mans land and he could have died but he stay their with courage .When Joey was in no mans land he had the courage to stay there and let the British and Germans when either side could have shot all them because that’s what would usually happen in no mans land. But I though it took courage for both sides to go out into no mans land and free Joey when one was already getting shot at. Also when Albert had to give up Joey so he could go to war, but Albert never gave up and had the courage to keep looking for Joey.
Hope is the abstract noun I choose because Joey had hope that the person that was whistling to him was Albert. He and Albert both had hope that they’d find each other one day and that day would be soon to come. Hope is the noun because joey had lost his hope after his buddy died no,but he still had hope that his dream will come true. He had hope everyday even after the other solider that was giving both of them a rest. He had hope that tomorrow is going to be a better day. He was determinated that he will live long after the war and go to albert or Emily.he had hope and he is the perfect idol.
Go war horse!
The abstract noun I came up with to describe war horse is Friendship. I picked this word because joey had a lot of friends over the course of the war. Albert raised Joey, and then Captain Nichols took him out to war. Then he was captured and kept by two German men ran away with Joey and Top-thorn, the Germans were captured but they left Joey and Top-thorn behind, then Emily, the girl who lived on the farm were the two Germans hid. In a few years the Germans cane back for Joey and Top-thorn to pull cannons around, and the man taking care of them liked him and Top-thorn, then joey was put up for auction, and Emily’s grandfather bought him. But in the end he gave him back to Albert.
I think a good abstract noun that describes war horse is probully hope. I thought hope is a good abstract noun because when Albert had to say goodbye to Joey because he was going into war, Albert never gave up hope that they would find each other again, and neither did Joey. Also because when Albert was finally able to enroll into war and this was about 4 to 5 years after Albert had to say goodbye, and he still never gave up hope that he would see Joey again even during war. And I mabye would have thought Joey would have lost hope by now because its been so long ever since Joey saw Albert. But I think the thing that didnt let Joey loose hope, was Topthore. This is because to Joey Topthore felt more like a brother more than a companion. Topthore always stayed by Joey and tryed to make sure he is always safe .
I think the abstract noun for The movie War Horse would be hope. I think the this because throughout the whole movie almost none of the characters gave up hope. For example though the entire movie when all the people he loved where diapering Joey just kept pushing forward and never gave up hope on surviving the war. Another example is Albert, he joined the army in hope of finding Joey, and through all the gas bombs and bullets he never gave up hope and in the end they were reunited. Even the girl Emily never gave up hope, even when she was dying from disease. I think it should be hope because as i said no one in the book ever gave up hope.
My abstract noun that describes the movie and the book is passion. I think this because in the book he recieved so much passion by Albert, Emily, and all of his numerous riders. I also think this because in the movie Albert was able to realize that the horse at the makeshift hospital was Joey, even though he could not even see him. This shows how much Albert knows Joey and how much passion he has from him. Also, in the movie, before Albert even knew Joey, he still gave him apples and watched him all day long. That is also a great example of how much love and passion Joey was given all through the movie and the book. All of this evidence shows why the abstract noun I chose for the movie and book of War Horse is passion.
A good abstract noun for War Horse would be hope. I chose hope because all through out the war, Joey never gave up hope. When Topthorn died, he never gave up hope; he just kept pushing through. Also, when Joey went off to war, even though he wasn’t old enough, Albert waited untill he was, then went off to fight in the war, just to look for Joey. When the horses were with Emily, they kept hoping that she would make it through. When he didn’t give up hope, even just for that 1 in a million chance, he eventually found Joey, all because of hope.
I think that a good abstract noun for Joey is bravery. I think that bravery is a good abstract because Joey walked right up to the front lines through lines of fire and did not freak out any other horse would have flipped. I also think that the noun is good because Joey got taken from his mom, Albert, and Emily. He handled all of those breakups nicely and he did not complain very much about them. I don’t think any horse is as brave as Joey. He has been through struggle, war, and sadness. That is why he is called a War Horse
The abstract noun that I would choose is kindness. I chose this abstract noun because throughout the story Joey was touched by kindness. First he met Albert who loved him and showed kindness. Then he met the officer Captain Nicholls who stuck to a promise to love him and care for him. When he went to the German side the girl Emilie took care of Joey and touched him with kindness. When the British man and the German man cut him from the barb wire they showed compassion to Joey and each other. But I think the biggest act of kindness is when Emilie’s grandfather bought Joey and gave him to Albert, he was the real hero.
The abstract noun that I would use to associate with the movie War Horse is “destiny”. I chose this word because Albert and Joey, the horse were separated from each other and were reunited at the end. There were many situations were Joey could have died or ended up in another country under the care of other people but destiny brought them back together. For example, when Albert was in the army infirmary, he been temporarily blinded from the gas. He heard about a miracle horse who survived being caught barbed wire and lived through the war. However there was a British captain who was going to put Joey down. Upon Albert hearing about the horse he stood in the back of the crowd and did his special owl call that only Joey responded. When Joey heard that he ran over to Albert and then Albert was able to explain to the Captain that it was his horse. Albert, who was blindfolded because of his injuries to his eyes, told the Captain that the horse had special markings and gave them in great detail all the markings that Joey had. They washed Joey off and found all of the special markings that Albert had explained. The Captain then decided not to put Joey down. In watching War Horse it made me believe that Albert and Joey were supposed to be together!
One of the abstract nouns that represented War Horse is loyalty. Loyalty represents War horse because Albert was loyal to Joey when he said that he would come for him. Also Colonel Nickels was loyal to Albert about keeping Joey safe for as long as he was alive. Then Topthorn’s rider took care of him then another gave him to another loyal rider. Also the girls grandfather was loyal by trying to buy Joey even though the girl had already died. Additionally Topthorn was loyal to Joey until he pretty much died. That is why the abstract noun loyalty represents the book and movie of War Horse.
